Deck Designer (deckdesigner.com.au) is run by Total Scope Carpentry in Canberra. This page explains what we collect when you use the deck designer, why, who sees it and how to ask us about it. We keep it short and plain on purpose.
Designing a deck
Your design is built in your own browser. Nothing about you is sent to us while you design.
When you enter a postcode we record the postcode with the size, shape and decking type of the design, so we can see where decks are being planned. That record has no name, email, phone number or IP address in it.
Saving your design to a dashboard
To save a design you give us your email address. We email you a link to confirm it; there is no password. We then keep your email address, your saved design, and any notes and ticked items you add in your dashboard.
If you ask a carpenter for a quote from your dashboard, we ask for your mobile number and confirm it with a code sent by text message. We keep the confirmed number with your account, and send your email, mobile, postcode, design and any message you add to the carpenter listed for your area so they can contact you about your quote.
If you ask us to email you your materials list, we send it to the address you enter. We do not keep that address, only a scrambled code of it that cannot be turned back into the address, used to stop the form being misused.
Using a builder's designer
Many builders show the deck designer on their own website or on their own page with us. When you enter your mobile there and confirm it with the PIN we text you, we send your mobile number, postcode, suburb, design and deck plans (PDF) to that builder, and keep them so the builder can see them on their private leads page. They go to that builder only. We never share them with or sell them to another builder.
The builder's own website is run by the builder, and their privacy policy covers it. When you confirm your mobile, the designer tells the builder's page that an enquiry was made, using a random reference with no personal details in it, so the builder can count it in their own advertising reports.
Builders who contact us
If you send the form on our builders page, we keep your name, business name, mobile, email, website, area and message so we can reply to you.
Cookies and technical information
We use one cookie to keep you signed in to your dashboard, and builders get one to stay signed in to their leads page. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not run analytics on deckdesigner.com.au.
To stop forms and text messages being misused we keep a scrambled code of your IP address for up to a day. Our web server also keeps standard technical logs for a short time to keep the site running and secure.
Who helps us run the service
We use these companies to run Deck Designer, and they handle data only to provide their service to us:
- DigitalOcean, which hosts the website and its data on a server in Sydney.
- Cloudflare, which delivers the website and protects it from attacks.
- Brevo, which sends our emails. Brevo is based in France, so email addresses and email content are handled overseas.
- Mobile Message, an Australian service that sends our text messages.
We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
How long we keep it
- Your dashboard account and designs: until you delete them. You can delete your account and everything in it from your dashboard at any time.
- Builder leads: while the builder uses Deck Designer, and for 12 months after they stop, then deleted.
- Confirmation codes and PINs: deleted once used, or after 10 minutes.
- Builder enquiries: for 12 months, then deleted.
- Backups: daily copies are kept for 30 days.
Your choices
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email [email protected] and we will reply within 30 days. If you are not happy with our answer you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update this page and the date at the top.
