1How to build a timber deck subframe (10:46)

From marking out to the last joist: footings, bearers, levelling, concreting, then the extra framing a picture frame border and a breaker board need.

Jump to a step

In the designer: The designer works out this frame for you: posts, bearers and joists at 450 mm centres, plus the doubled joists, noggings and blocking a picture frame needs. Tick Show frame in the 3D preview to see it, and the materials list counts every piece.

2How to build stairs with composite decking (7:23)

Drawing the steps out, joist spacing for stairs, footings and posts, the second step, mitred board joins and the fascia.

Jump to a step

In the designer: Add stairs to any open edge in step 5 of the designer. It works out the number of steps from your deck height, and the materials list adds the stringers (at 400 mm centres under composite) and the boards for every tread and riser.

3Laying the decking boards (3:39)

Episode 3 of Ekodeck's Deck It Yourself series: laying the boards with the Quickfix hidden clips, with a few pointers along the way.

In the designer: Choose a composite colour in step 3 and the materials list counts the boards and the Quickfix clip kits for your deck and stairs.

4Building picture frames and breaker boards (4:20)

How the border boards and breaker boards go in: marking up and cutting out, dropping them in and clipping down, then marking up the mitre joins.

Jump to a step

In the designer: Pick Picture frame or Breaker board in step 4 to see it on your deck in 3D. The designer adds the framing each one needs underneath (doubled joists, noggings and blocking), including on angled and curved edges, and counts it in the materials list.
